Walk by Carrie Bradshaw's Iconic Brownstone

Carrie Bradshaw’s famous apartment, featured in the first two episodes of Sex and the City, is located at 960 Madison Avenue on New York’s Upper East Side. The brownstone from the episode “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” was originally at 34 East 62nd Street, but it no longer stands. Carrie’s home from the later part of Season 2 can be found at 64 Perry Street in the West Village, while the brownstone used from Season 3 onward is right next door at 66 Perry Street. With its charm and picturesque appeal, it’s easy to see why 66 Perry became the go-to filming spot—though you might wonder why it wasn’t used in Season 2 instead of 64 Perry… but that’s a mystery only the Sex and the City crew could solve!

Step into the Pleasure Chest, Where Charlotte Buys Her “Rabbit”

Take a stroll through the iconic neighborhood spots that bring Sex and the City to life, like the Pleasure Chest, where Charlotte buys her infamous “rabbit” vibrator. It’s a fun, memorable moment that you can experience for yourself!

Relive Miranda’s Underwear Moment in the Village

Head over to the Village, where Miranda has one of the most cringe-worthy yet relatable moments in the series involving a mishap with her underwear. It’s an unforgettable scene in the heart of New York’s charming neighborhoods.

Explore the Trendy Meatpacking District

Venture into the vibrant Meatpacking District (MePa), where the girls frequently hang out, soaking in the trendy atmosphere, dining at stylish spots, and soaking up the chic vibes of this fashionable neighborhood.

Visit the Starbucks from “The Good Fight”

In Season 4’s “The Good Fight,” Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) finds herself at a Starbucks located at 124 8th Avenue in Chelsea, trying to catch her breath after a heated argument with her then-fiancé, Aidan Shaw (John Corbett). It’s the spot where she reflects on relationship struggles with a beautifully candid monologue about the challenges of fighting in relationships. You can almost feel the tension as she muses, “I used to think those people who sat alone at Starbucks writing on their laptops were pretentious posers. Now I know—they’re people who have recently moved in with someone.”

The scene captures Carrie’s sharp insight into love and conflict—one of the many poignant moments that make Sex and the City unforgettable.

Pass the Café Where Samantha Invites the Girls to Abu Dhabi

Don’t forget to stop by the café where Samantha Jones invites the gang to join her for a trip to Abu Dhabi. It’s one of the more adventurous moments in the series and serves as a great backdrop for all the drama and excitement to unfold.

401 Bleecker St Magnolia's Bakery

Indulge in cupcakes like when Carrie confides in Miranda about Aidan

Ever since Carrie and Miranda from Sex and the City ate cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery and talked about their love lives outside the store, we were hooked.

West Village 401 Bleecker St New York, NY 10014 (the one they went to on SATC)

Upper West Side 200 Columbus Ave New York, NY 10023

Midtown West 1240 Ave of the Americas New York, NY 10020

Grand Central Station (in the basement and really not nice)

1010 Fifth Avenue, Carrie and Big’s penthouse, the Upper East Side building that served as the exterior of Carrie and Big’s penthouse for the interior you have to go to the Ziegler’s house at 2 E 63rd St, New York, NY 10065

Gray’s Papaya

Sadly, though still insanely popular (you’d be hard-pressed to find any Gray’s location that is not crammed with people 24/7), the Greenwich Village outpost shuttered in January 2014 due to a rent hike. It followed the closing of another Gray’s at 539 8th Avenue in Midtown in February 2011 for the same reason, leaving the UWS eatery as the chain’s sole locale.

In “Plus One Is the Loneliest Number,” which aired in 2002, a “palpably lonely” Carrie attends the party for her book release sans a significant other. While heading home from the soiree, Carrie’s limo driver (Dena Atlantic) learns that Carrie has just written a book and insists on taking her somewhere to celebrate. The two hit up Gray’s Papaya (long known for being open 24 hours) and when the driver informs the man taking their order about Carrie’s new book, he insists on giving them the dogs for free. The scene was inspired by SATC writer Cindy Chupack’s first Emmy win. Of

the experience, she is quoted in Sex and the City: Kiss and Tell as saying, “I didn’t have a date for the Emmys the year we won, and I lost our Sex and the City people at one point during the night, so I felt very ‘minus one’ until my driver said, ‘You won an Emmy? We have to celebrate this!’ and took me through a McDonald’s drive-through and told the guys in the window, ‘She won an Emmy!’ They gave me a free chocolate shake. The limo driver we cast in the episode was very much like the driver I had – although in the episode, Carrie goes to Gray’s Papaya, which is more New York and is actually a favorite place of Sarah Jessica’s.”

Strand Book Store from “Sex and the City”

Originally established in 1927, Strand Book Store was the brainchild of 25-year-old bibliophile Benjamin Brass. The shop was initially located on Fourth Avenue’s Book Row, a six-block area in Greenwich Village comprised of no less than 48 book sellers. Brass dubbed his emporium, which back then sold only used tomes, in honor of the famed Strand street in London where countless

notable writers, including Charles Dickens, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Virginia Woolf, have livedover the years. In 1956, Benjamin’s son, Fred, took over management of the Strand and moved it toits current home on the corner of Broadway and East 12th Street the following year. Though Book Row and the 47 other boutiques once located there are no longer in existence, the Strand managed to not only survive throughout the years, but thrive. In “The Freak Show” episode of Sex and the City,

which aired in 1999, Carrie dates a succession of men who all turn out to have freakish habits. The segment shot at the Strand involved a broker named Max (Thomas Pescod) who, as Carrie learns, has a penchant for pilfering books. The brief scene took place outside of the store among thebargain dollar carts stationed on Broadway.

lake.

Barneys New York

660 Madison Ave

New York, NY 10065

(212) 826-8900

Carrie shops at a lot of stores throughout the series—the usual chic New York suspects, including

Bloomingdales and Bergdorf Goodman, but Barneys is the only one that created a special window display inspired by the series.

Manolo Blahnik

31 W 54th St

New York, NY 10019

(212) 582-3007

Through all of the relationship ups and downs that unfolded throughout the history of the show, it was Manolo Blahnik that remained Carrie’s true love (while also leaving her $40,000 in the hole). She even registered at the store in season six, when she loses a pair of her beloved heels at a married friend’s party.

Limelight Building

656 6th Ave

New York, NY 10010

(646) 964-5741

As we’ve previously noted, the Church of the Holy Communion, which once housed the infamous club Limelight building, has had a long and winding history. Part of that includes a cameo in Sex in the City at the end of season one, where the crew head to celebrate the launch of a new fragrance. In the episode, the scene is just as wild as real-life parties at the church-turned-club have been

described.

The Paris Theatre

4 W 58th St

New York, NY 10019

(212) 823-8945

“One of the most amazing things about living in a city like New York, is that any night of the week you can go to Paris.” So says Carrie Bradshaw in season five of SATC, when extolling the virtues of the Paris Theatre, located across from the Plaza Hotel. The theater only shows one film, typically an indie flick, at a time, and it’s one of the most beautiful places to catch a movie in the city.

Onieal's Restaurant & Bar

174 Grand St

New York, NY 10013

(212) 941-9119

This Lower East Side bar stood in for Scout, the watering hole that Steve and Aidan opened in season four of the series. The bar proudly proclaims that it’s “well known” for being the stand-in for that “casually hip” bar. Scout the bar owned by Steve and Aidan

Miranda’s ex-boyfriends, Aidan and Steve)

Jefferson Market Garden

Greenwich Ave & 6th Avenue

New York, NY 10011

(212) 777-7662

Miranda and Steve said “I do” at this lovely West Village garden, located next to the landmark Jefferson Market Library. They chose the spot by accident; while running errands, Miranda’s Duane Reade bag breaks, and Steve steps in a wad of gum right in front of the pretty public space. The married-to-be call it a “pretty, but not corny” location for their low-key wedding.

Trapeze School New York

(212) 242-8769

The season six episode “The Catch” was filmed, in part, at the Trapeze School’s Pier 40 outpost, which still exists to this day. The episode’s main drama is around Harry and Charlotte’s wedding, but Carrie attends sessions at this trapeze school—and learns something important about herself in the process. (That happened a lot on the show.)

Columbus Circle

New York, NY

Carrie and her one-time fiancé, furniture designer Aidan Shaw, called it quits on their engagement after Carrie’s fear of commitment became evident. He makes an unsuccessful attempt to convince her to marry him immediately after they attend a black-and-white affair, providing a heartbreaking coda to season four.

New York Public Library

The New York Public Library’s Fifth Avenue building made two small but significant appearances in the life of Sex and the City. First, there was the season six episode that coined the phrase “he’s just not that into you.” Then, in the first SATC movie, Carrie decided that the NYPL was the perfect place for her and Mr. Big (Christopher Noth) to wed. In Carrie’s words, it’s “the classic New York landmark that housed all the great love stories.” Unfortunately, that didn’t work out too well.
